My Specialties

Anxiety

Anxiety robs us of the present moment. Stuck in that carbonated feeling of worry and stress, we lose touch with and miss out on what is. I use a combination of mindfulness and parts-work (IFS) techniques to support you to become curious about your anxious parts and how hard they are working to protect you. Through our work together, you can learn how to reconnect with your grounded, best self and operate from that place of calm.

Grief and Loss

Grief can feel like an amputation, like the removal of a vital organ. You know you won't survive it, and yet, somehow, you do. I create a gentle space for you to feel into this impossible loss, to explore the depths and complexities of your emotions. Then--only as your system is ready--I support you to begin to explore who you are in the wake of this loss. I'll walk alongside you as you begin to identify the openings now available to you and reclaim inspiration, meaning, and even joy.

Trauma & Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

In the wake of trauma, we can feel broken beyond repair--sometimes we struggle to remember who we even are. Using techniques from EMDR and IFS and offering you many tools along the way, I'll guide you to rediscover your capacity for inspiration, play, and joy as you transform your scariest moments into points of empowerment. You don't have to walk this path alone. I can help you access your strength, wisdom, and power and find beauty and play in the process of healing.

A safe space to uncover your power

I provide individualized, trauma-informed, and LGBTQ-affirming therapy sessions that connect you with your best self so that you can more authentically show up in our world. Blending strategies and techniques from EMDR, internal family systems (IFS), expressive arts, polyvagal theory, interpersonal psychotherapy, motivational interviewing, person-centered therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy, my approach meets you exactly where you are. I’ll help you get to know your many facets so that you can embrace and live into the full, nuanced you. Get inspired, grow, and play—all on the path to healing.

In-person and remote options

My office is conveniently located on Wall Street in downtown Asheville, NC (right next to Laughing Seed!). I also offer virtual sessions as well as a limited number of nature-based, arts-based, and yoga-based options. Reach out for more information.

Getting started

Our first meeting with last 75 to 85 minutes (with opportunities to take breaks whenever you need to!). We’ll get to know each other and discuss your unique strengths, challenges, hopes, and goals. Together, we’ll design a treatment plan tailored to you so that we can stay focused on what’s most important to you and track your development and growth.

What to expect

After our first session, we will meet weekly or bi-weekly for 50 or 80 minute sessions depending on your preferences and needs. If we are using an EMDR approach, we’ll spend the first part of each session checking in on what we did last time and working with any new thoughts, feelings, or symptoms that have shown up. If we are doing parts work, we might start with a brief meditation to support you to connect with your authentic self and then continue to get to know those parts we’ve explored in previous weeks. If we’re using creative writing or other arts-based approaches, we might begin with you reading or showing me what you’ve created over the past week. Regardless of the road we take, you will be in the driver’s seat, empowered to lead us in the direction that feels best to your authentic self while knowing that you can lean on me for guidance, direction, and support.

Eye Movement Reprocessing and Desensitization (EMDR)

When you get a cut on your arm, if you keep it clean and tend to it in the right ways, it will naturally heal. Our bodies are designed to do this, and so are our brains. EMDR offers a set of tools that will enable your brain to do just that--to process, heal, and learn from even the most harrowing moments of your life. You don't have to stay stuck. You can move from barely surviving to genuinely thriving.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

I love supporting clients to identify, get to know, and build compassion for their many parts, even the ones they tend to look away from in shame. You have the power to embrace, heal, and live into every facet of yourself. Your Self--your compassionate, curious, calm inner core--is always there for you, and I can offer you tools to more consistently act from that place of kindness and power.

Are we the right fit?

I particularly love working with folks who are reckoning with who they are in the wake of trauma, loss, addiction, and change, or who are wanting to build lives with more creativity, presence, and meaning while navigating the realities of depression or anxiety. As part of our work together, I will challenge you to grow beyond any ingrained patterns that are no longer serving you. I ask that you come to therapy with willingness and openness to being challenged, supported, and surprised. I also invite you to come with a spirit of curiosity and play and to be as honest as you can be about every facet of yourself. Depending on your unique passions, I will invite you to engage in therapy in any number of creative ways including visualization, writing, visual art, movement, song, meditation, and more. Sound good to you? Let’s connect for a free call.
